Recently Updated Updated on 2024-10-25

In this how-to guide, you will learn how to re-install or switch your Overaxed Dedicated Server OS using .iso file with the HPE Intelligent Provisioning

Please note: New operating system versions installations for OS's like Windows Server 2019, 2022, Debian 12, or Ubuntu 24 are not recommended.

Intelligent Provisioning generally supports older versions of Operating Systems including Windows Server 2016 and below, RHEL and openSUSE.

Introduction to HPE Intelligent Provisioning

HPE Intelligent Provisioning (IP) is an embedded tool on HPE ProLiant servers that streamlines OS installations and server configurations without external installation media. Learn more on HPE's official support page.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Accessing Intelligent Provisioning (IP) via iLO or Physical Boot

Remote Access: Log in to your Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) interface with the server's IP address. In the "One-Time Boot" menu, select Intelligent Provisioning.

Direct Boot Access: Reboot the server and press F10 during startup to enter IP directly.

2. Configuring Intelligent Provisioning for a New OS Installation

In IP, go to the "Perform Maintenance" section. Here, you’ll see options for deploying or upgrading your OS. Ensure you have an OS installation ISO ready if using a custom image.

3. Choose the OS and RAID Configuration

OS Selection: Select from the OS options (Windows, Linux, etc.). RAID Setup: Configure RAID levels to suit storage and redundancy needs.

4. Loading OS Installation Media

Virtual Media via iLO: Use iLO’s virtual media function for remote installations, allowing you to mount an ISO image remotely.

5. Complete the OS Installation Process

Follow the installation steps for IP, including partitioning and setup configurations. For drives larger than 2TB, if you are unable to select GPT as the disk type, please refer to this guide.

Best Practices for Deployment

Firmware Updates: Update server firmware via iLO or IP for compatibility with the latest OS versions.

Network and Time Settings: Configure network and date/time settings in IP for proper updates and security patches.

Security Settings: Configure iLO or IP access controls for secure installation access.

Post-Installation: OS Configuration and Driver Updates

After installation, update all drivers in IP or enable automatic updates to maintain security and performance.
