Created on 2021-08-21 Updated on 2024-01-06

Short Description

Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) is a technology that enables remote display and input capabilities over network connections for Windows-based applications running on a server. On the other hand, Virtual Private Server (VPS) is a virtual machine that you can use to host your data. As VPS runs its Operating System. A Server/VPS allows you to have a dedicated Windows/Linux/ Other OS environment for your applications and data without the need for physical hardware. You can get a GIANT Server (Windows/Linux), Gaming Server (Windows/Linux), Windows VPS Server, or Linux VPS server.

In Short

Our Servers with a Windows OS have the Windows Remote Desktop Protocol access enabled in them, and that's why it is referred to Servers with Windows OS as "RDP" due to their way of access and also due to the popularity of the RDP term being used between our existing and new users to refer to them.

On the other hand, Servers with a Linux/OS App are referred to as Linux "VPS" Servers and have Secure Shell Protocol (SSH) access enabled instead of RDP.
